Hip-Hop videos and a concept of each

Emily Hyett

Ben Homewood

When listening to this song I imagine the set to be very dark, with lowlighting. This adds a sense of tranquility. This song isn't very fast paced so I can imagine the video to have slow transitions with minimal colour to portray the genre of hip hop. I can imagine the video to include women as the hip hop genre is centered around women and other videos I have seen in this genre all focus on women. I can also imagine the video to include money, cars, drugs and alcohol as this is considered the normal behaviour of people who listen to this genre

The video for this has day scenes and only a few night scenes where the main artist is seen with a woman giving her is number, this reinforces the image of the hip hop genre of men being surrounded by women.

The video is also very slow paced and calm showing that the artist is very chilled and care free.

While listening this song I could imagen rebelish things happing such as, a riot and going against what their meant to be doing. As they say no church in the wild it's like their against religious things causing them to be rebelish. I could also imagine them going completely against what society expects from them.

This video shows them starting a riot, the men are dressed in dark starting to go against whats expected.  The males are covering their faces to show that they know what their doing is wrong but they are still going to be doing it. There is more volience in the clip them what I originally imagined. The location is a run down location and also looks very dark and place almost trying to cover up whats happening.

Mood Board - HipHop

This mood board  shows the kind of things the audience would looking as a hip-hop audience. As it's the audience were looking at they aspirer to be them so therefore would commonly not be able to afford to get all the expensive cars that the artists can afford. The audience will most probably dress in baggy clothing as they look at the hip-hop artists as their role models. They will alos have similar accessories  to their outfit to enhance what their wearing.

Teen Genre examples

Chavs
 Hipsters

Metallers/Emo/Goth

Scene Kids

 Ravers/Nu-ravers

Punks

Hip-Hop

Skaters

Examples of each sub-genre

Chavs:

In this video you can see the artist is wearing stereotypical clothes of a chav (snapback hat, chain, hoodie and trainers) and the area can also be seen as a stereotypical place for chavs to 'hang out'. Talking about cars as well is what chavs may enjoy doing and they may fantasise about having cars such as these. The artists are also walking in a stereotypical chav was and use a lot of hand actions. This genre suggests immaturity, recklessness and intimidating. The lyrics and the visuals match as the lyrics are talking about cars, which is the main focus of this music video. However, in this video the artists are not actually driving the cars, the cars do not have blacked out windows and they do not look rich. This is because they are relating to the audience of chav as they are likely to be inspiring to own a German car. The music and visuals match as the music is quite repetitive and low beat, and in the video the artists often repeat movements and shots and act as though they have authority (low beat can be seen as intimidating as can authority). The video has a huge focus on the artists themselves and the cars which they are singing about.

Hipsters:

Hipsters have an individual style and appearance, as does this music video. The music video is unusual and interesting yet different to most music videos. This music video is a good example of hipster characteristics. The video and lyrics do not match completely, however, some parts do match. This video seems to work with the lyrics as it about the 5 people in danger and the lyrics are also about getting back 'safe to shore'. The music and the visuals also contradict because the most is jolly and has a positive feel about it, however the visuals represent danger and darkness. Although the video does not completely match the music and lyrics, there are still close ups of faces, however they are also not singing. However it makes the audience imagine these faces signing this song. The imbalance of the song and the visuals would appeal to the hipster audience as they are also stereotypically different to 'normal' and would enjoy a more interesting and weird music video. There are no shots which focus on anything in particular and is also no intertextual reference. The image and personality of the video is unusual, different and can be seen as confusing.

Metallers/Emo/Goth:

This music video demonstrates the characteristics of metallers/emo/goths as it includes dark scenes and isolated scenes which is similar to the stereotypical scenery of metallers/emos/goths. The image and personality of this video is dark and aggressive. However, it can be interpreted in different ways as it is an aggressive and rebellious but the lyrics can be seen as positive as it is talking about being brought to life and is therefore youthful and alive.

Scene Kids:

This vidoe is aimed at teenagers who what to experience things that their not old enough to do such as, drink and take drugs. This genre of music is rock as their proforming on a stage. The way their proforming is linked to what their lyrics. This shows the point of view from someone in the aduience almost like a narritive.
Ravers/Nu-ravers:

This gener of music amined at ravers as it shows the kind of experiecne a persons body feels after they've been to one almost as though their bodys been beaten up. This shows close ups of not only the peoples faces but also probs. This is set in a club where ravers would typically be. The image and personality of this song is reckless against the innocent, showing how the ravers become rebellious and reckless as they could be using drugs.

Punks:

This shows a reblish attutuide, this is aimed at young people who express themselfs through music. The gener on music this is is punk as their dressed punky and protray themselfs in a way which is punky. This doesn't show a realife experience. This shows close ups of the proformers which is key for making a music video to a song, what also goes with the gener of music is that it's all in back and white which leaves the audience to pay more attention to whats happening visually.

Hip-Hop:
In this video you can see that the artist is dresses in the typical way in which a hip hop artist would dress, with jewlery, hats and baggy clothing. The location also provides a sense of disconnection as it is on a beach at night. The lighting used is also very dark with minimal colour which shows how the video is calm and the people are relaxed in the video. Women are also in minimal clothing which shows them to be iconic towards the men in the video. This genre suggests authority, relaxation and chilled out as the music video is very calm and basic. The language used is very explisit which represents hip hop to be relatable to the audience who may smoke, take drugs and listen to this type of music. The image and personality that their creating is that their above the law as their on drugs, this also shows that there rebellious and reckless.

Skaters:

In this video the artist is wearing very masculine clothes. This includes baggy tops, trousers, shoes and a hat. This shows the genre to be very male populated. The woman looks very boystrus and portrays the genre to be masculine. The camera and lighting is also very dark providing evidence that this genre is very dull and neutral as minimal colour is used. The fast paced action of the video shows that this genre is up beat, like skating. The video also shows the youngsters to be wreckless which enables young people to relate to what is being done in the video. Her dark makeup and black jewlery also shows the genre to be very punk styled. The rave at the end also enables youths to relate and represents the genre as youthful, eventful and wreckless.
